August 20, 06 Romulan Hunt, a
Star Trek-type game for OS X, is written in AppleScript Studio. Find the enemy ship and destroy it before he does the same to you! Nitewing '98 wrote his first version of this game
21 years ago and now you can play it too!
Based on the original
Star Trek series episode "Balance Of Terror," the game puts you in the center seat of a starship as you carry on a war of nerves with a cloaked Romulan Bird of Prey. "He's out there, somewhere. I feel it," says the mysterious Romulan commander of you. And you know he's there, waiting for you to make a mistake ...
Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). Compiled as a Universal Binary, so it should run on Intel Macs.
Version Changes
- Some changes in Tiger's Applescript Studio events caused the targeting cursor not to work. This has been repaired.
- Sound preferences are now saved between games. Turning off sound now no longer waits for the background sounds to end, but stops them immediately.
Romulan Hunt has been written for every computer Nitewing has owned, and now it's available in a Mac OS X version, thanks to AppleScript Studio. The game play is simple: On your screen, somewhere, is a hidden Romulan ship. Your mission: to triangulate it's position and destroy it before he destroys you.
But the Romulan Commander isn't going to make it easy for you. If you miss him 3 times, he's gonna move on you, and you have to start figuring out his position again. But you'll get several tries before he finally gets a bead on you and blows you away.
Oh, and by the way...you only have 3 photon torpedos left. Hope your aim with the ship's phasers is good...
Great math game for teaching geometry and trigonometry in a fun way. Uses the Pythagorean theorem to compute the distance between the hidden ship and your shot. Kids will find quickly that, if they do the math (and place shots shrewdly), they can win every time.
